About Our Journey
Canada is in a bit of trouble. A new government is trying to sort their way through a trade war. People are losing their jobs because of the tariffs. There are rumblings of separation out west. Is it my imagination, or are people singing the national anthem at hockey games a little more fervently these days? 'God keep our land, glorious and free.' We do desperately need an intervention from God in this time.
As our way to 'stand on guard for thee,' Patty and
I will be taking a prayer journey this summer - a journey that
will take us from sea to sea to sea. On June 11 we want to head
south of Winnipeg in our RV. Just before the American border
we'll hang a left and stay as close as possible to the southern
boundary of Canada traveling east. When we come to the Atlantic
we'll follow the coast north as far as we can go and then swing
back west, forming a giant loop. We plan to end back at
Winnipeg near the end of July. The Western circuit will have to
wait till later. Next year? As God enables us, we plan to
drive as far south as possible to Pelee Island, then to Cape
Spear at the easternmost tip of North America. On the second
part of the loop we want to go north as far as roads can take us
to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean, and then way out west to
Little Gold, Yukon. En route we hope to drive through every
province and territory. I know conventional wisdom says you
can't drive to Nunavut but I think I might have found a way :-)
Every morning on our journey we want to pray the extended version of 'O Canada', especially the last verse:
Ruler Supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God in thee, a lasting rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day, we ever stand on guard ...
As we drive we have four big things we'll be asking God for:
1) That as a nation we will turn our faces and our devotion back to our Ruler Supreme.
2) That He'll give wisdom to our government in leading us through these times.
3) That unity and a desire to help each other will grow within our country from sea to sea to sea. To symbolize this we will take a jar of water from the Red River and mix it with waters from the Great Lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic and the Pacific.
4) That restoration will continue among indigenous peoples and they will be given their proper place within this land. We'd love to honour and bless First Nations as we pass through them on our way, and give each one a gift of healing balm that my daughter Mischa and I make from our backyard poplar buds.
For those that are reading this, we hope you'll stand on guard with us in prayer. We expect God is going to do big and special and transformational stuff. We're inviting you to come along with us on our journey by following this blog or:
